The HTML block is a very versatile tool that you can use in your course. HTML blocks contain your own content. You may have several HTML blocks within your course.

The block is a flexible and can incorporate a variety of functions and uses in the content area. It has the standard Moodle HTML editor for formatting text, adding images or creating links, switching to code view and allows any valid HTML markup to be used. This enables embedding video, sounds, Flash, and other files which can add unique elements to a course or site page.

Adding the HTML Block

First, turn editing on in your course. Scroll down and you will see the Add Blocks drop-down menu. From that menu, select 'HTML'.

You will see the following appear in your course above the Blocks drop-down menu:

To add content to your new HTML block, click the edit (gear icon) menu drop down. Then click the 'Configure (new HTML block) block link:

Now you will be able to create your HTML block. You may give your HTML block a title, then create it using the Moodle HTML Editor. You can insert pictures, links, and multimedia.

Once you are finished, click 'Save changes' button and you will return to your course. You will see your new HTML block appear above the Blocks drop-down menu. You can move your HTML block to a more appropriate location in your course if you wish.

If you need to make changes to the block, simply turn editing on and click the edit icon again. You can do almost anything in a HTML block. Many teachers add a HTML block that includes their picture and a short introduction.
